Sarah Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor

At Hastily Convened Press Conference Says She Will Not Run for 2nd Term, Mum On Future Plans

(CBS) Last Updated 3:44 p.m. ET.

Sarah Palin has announced that she will resign as governor of Alaska and will not seek a second term.

CBS Affiliate KTVA reports that at a press conference this morning Palin said she will resign the governorship within a few weeks.

CBSNews.com producer Scott Conroy, who covered Palin's vice presidential campaign last year, confirmed through a source close to the governor said she is leaving office.

Earlier today, a holiday, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be making an announcement from her home in Wasilla.

Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners.

Palin said that power will be transferred to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell, who will be sworn in during the upcoming governor's picnic in Fairbanks.

She did not field questions, and would not give any indications about her future plans.

Thank God she is stepping down! She is so weird! I hope she retreats to a no name place in Alaska and stay there. If the republicans are actually working on there name she is not the person to represent them! Psycho!

Hello there!

Long time no visit, glad to see you're keeping this blog up. I have a feeling it'll continue to serve a useful purpose over the next few years (possibly a lot more).

Just thought I'd mention, I'm a co-author of Boatang & Demetriou dot com. (You have us linked on your site under our old wordpress site, I was wondering whether you'd be so kind as to update the link).

I've written a piece about Palin's resignation and all round stupidity on my site today. If you want to check it out.

My regards!

She may be leaving the Governor's Office, but those running shoes and the flag have a meaning. I'm sure there will be lots more to come in more ways than one.

When you stick with your gut in pursuit of a noble cause, and especially at a time when everyone around you tells you it's futile and wrong, that's being determined and having grit.

In the case of Sarah Palin, this isn't the case. This is a perfect example of a small minded idiot pursuing her own ego regardless of the damage she may cause or who gets hurt in the process.

She's more than just an idiot. She's a mental mutation of an idiot who's power hungry and somehow manages to channel George W. Bush's worst quality, his stupidity.

She belongs in a mental institution.

If you run for public office you fulfill your commitment. How can anyone in such a position be so irresponsible. Can you imagine if she was president? Thank God she'll never be elected to anything but the next talking head on fox. She was soooooo dumb. She preached what her own family and the rest of the real US wouldn't practice. Go stick your head in the sand for a good twenty years. We;ll tell you when we need you.
